When do I need an EIC rather than a minor works certificate?

An EIC is for new installations and any work that adds a new circuit. A Minor Works certificate covers additions and alterations that don't add a new circuit, such as adding a socket to an existing circuit.

What an EIC is

An EIC is issued for new electrical installations and for additions or alterations that add a new circuit. It records the supply characteristics, the details of each circuit and the schedule of test results, and carries the responsible person's declaration that the work meets BS 7671. It's the document that proves the installation was designed, built and tested to standard.

Current edition, correct rules

Jobivo's EIC is on BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. It won't let you record polarity where it doesn't belong on an EIC, and outcomes start blank rather than pre-ticked, so the certificate reflects what was actually tested. The recipient guidance the model form calls for is included.
